What is Hypertension

Eating habits affect our health whether its in a positive or negative way, it still has its presence and will affect you in one way or another. Which in return gives us the reason to why we should always watch what we eat. Even if we still feel young and have no apparent complications with our body, we must still take the necessary precautions in maintaining a healthy body. Having a proper exercise routine and eating the right food can really help us in preventing any future illnesses like hypertension.

Before getting started, we must know first the meaning of blood pressure and how it works in our body… Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries. So… Every time the heart beats it automatically pumps out blood into the arteries, which will makes the blood pressure vary each heart beat. The highest blood pressure occurs when heart beats pump the blood. Which is commonly referred to as the “Systolic Pressure”. Between when the heart beats or while the heart is at rest, blood pressure falls. This is called the “Diastolic Pressure”. With new information it should be known that adults should have a normal blood pressure of less than 120/80. High blood pressure occurs when it reached 140/90 or higher.

High blood pressure, also known as “Hypertension”, is one of the most famous illnesses for adults. Having a high blood pressure is a very serious condition. It is normal for blood pressure to go up and down throughout the day, but if it stays up (high blood pressure) or down (low blood pressure), that brings the problem. When the blood pressure stays high, it starts to damage the blood vessels, heart and kidneys. In worst case, it can lead to different health problems like coronary heart disease, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, etc. Actually, high blood pressure is a “Silent Killer”. You never know when it starts causing damage into your body because it doesnt usually show any symptoms.

For those of us who have hypertension there are alot of things we must do to control our blood pressure. The first place to start is changing your daily lifestyle to bring the blood pressure back to normal. Start eating healthy food like vegetables, fruits, etc. Then, avoid eating high in fat and cholesterol food like chicken skin, pork fat, and all that other good stuff that got you here in the first place. And just so you know salty food is not advisable for person who has high blood pressure, so stay away from the salt. Daily exercise can also help in maintaining a healthy blood pressure. Most people wouldnt believe you if you told them but a simple walk around the block would be fine. But to top it all off the most important thing is to TAKE THE MEDICATION given by specialist doctor. I know you may laugh but for some of us, getting on a routine of taking the medication is one of the hardest things to do in helping reduce our blood pressure.

Our health is one of the most precious things in this world. We should never take it for granted. Once becoming unhealthy, it’s very difficult to get back to normal. And nowadays, getting sick is too costly so its definitely better to visit your doctor regularly. Remember, prevention is much better than cure!
