If you believe that you smoking habit only affect you, you are most decidedly mistaken. Stop smoking, it also affect those around you! It is not just that it stinks, what about your family? Smoking has been proven to be one of the major causes of lung cancer and heart disease and you have to remember that your family and friends love you.
When a smoker dies prematurely from smoking related illness not only do they lose their life often 8 years sooner than they would normally. They also deprive their family of the joy of having them around for that extra 8 years.
It is always sad to lose the older generation as old age takes over, but if this is speeded up die to smoking related illness the sadness is even worse. Life and death are natural and the two things we are certain of are death and taxes. By why speed things up, you will only have to pay more taxes (death tax) more quickly?
The consequences of smoking are far reaching, and it is for this reason that non-smokers are so passionate about the subject. This is a highly charged debate, but it is not only about second hand smoke. It impinges on rights this way and that and is of great cause for concern. Of primary concern is the health of unborn children and this is only one of the many factors which fuel the smoking debate. If the mother smokes, there is more likelihood of infant mortality, either through miscarriage or at birth. The fact that this is present in 50% more of mothers who are smokers, means that half the infant mortality rates are attributed to smoking! There is good news however, if you are a smoking mother and you stop by the 4th month of gestation, all of this can be significantly turned around.
Aside from the very important factor of smoking and babies, what about the environment these babies are going to have to grow up in? Did you know that a cigarette butt is not easily biodegradable.
Worldwide millions of smokers consume as much as 6, 050, 000, 000, 000 cigarettes. If only 5% of the butts of these cigarettes was improperly discarded it would mean that the streets, parks, roads, and beaches of the world were exposed to 302, 500, 000, 000 butts every year which are going to take five years to degrade.
