If you are currently one of the millions of overweight people in the world, you’re probably wondering the same thing as everyone else out there…”How can I lose weight and keep it off?”
If your like most people, you’d also like to lose your extra pounds without spending an arm and a leg. You may also be embarrassed by your current weight and so are looking for something you can do privately.
So what do you do? Well with a bit of willpower, you can make a simple lifestyle change that will make the difference.
To begin, figure out how many calories you generally take in during a week. This is fairly easy, just look at an average day. For example:
An average days diet:
Breakfast: Flavored coffee with 2 cream and 2 Sugars (Dunkin Donuts medium size: approx 330 calories) and a muffin (Dunkin Donuts blueberry: 510 calories).
Lunch: A tuna salad sandwich with lettuce (about 680 calories). Single serving bag of Lays Classic Potato Chips (150 calories). A medium sized pickle (10 calories). Can of Coke (150 calories).
Afternoon snack: Single serving package of plain M&Ms (240 calories).
Dinner: Stouffer’s lasagna (single serving: 350 calories) with Pepperidge Farm garlic bread (2 servings: 340 calories) and an 8 oz. glass of soda (approx. 100 calories).
Night time snack: Snickers candy bar (King size: 440 calories).
On the surface, this diet doesn’t seem excessive, but do the math and you’ll be surprised – 3,300 calories for one day! Now multiply that by the seven days in the week and you looking at a caloric intake of 23,100!
It only takes 3,500 calories to equal a pound of fat. Eat 3,500 more than you need and you’ll gain a pound. Cut 3,500 from the total you eat and you’ll lose a pound.
So for a very simple diet that really works, do this: Figure your weekly calorie intake, just as we have here. Then simply deduct 3,500 calories from your week of eating. In our example, this can be achieved by eliminating or substituting only 3 items in our daily diet.
1 – Drink water instead of a Coke with lunch.
2) Eliminate the afternoon snack of M&Ms.
3. Opt for only one slice of garlic bread with dinner.
By making these three small changes, you will eliminate 560 calories from your daily diet. Multiplied by 7 days, that’s 3,920 calories that you won’t be eating – more than enough to lose an average of 1 pound per week! Over the course of a year, that’s 52 pounds! And that is WITHOUT exercise!
The diet shown here is just an example. Your daily diet will vary, but you can see how by just making a few changes, you can see fantastic results. Try applying this principle to your eating habits and the pounds will start to come off. This will give you the drive to continue with your new, healthier lifestyle. Don’t forget, small changes can make a big difference!
