How much time do you spend at your desk or in a chair during the day? With so many of us in desk jobs and so many people who love to surf the Internet, it is important to remember that there is good sitting posture and poor sitting posture. Your posture has so much to do with your comfort and your health, so make sure that you keep a few tips in mind.
If you have ever notice that you are in pain when you stand up or that sitting for long periods in certain positions makes your body ache, it is definitely time to try something new and to learn how to sit appropriately for good office chair posture. What steps do you need to take to make sure that you are avoiding bad sitting posture.
First, avoid sitting on your tailbone. Your tailbone is the bottom-most bone in your spine and when you sit on it for long periods of time, it can cause soreness, stiffness and even pain. Remember that you should be sitting squarely on your buttocks.
Your sit bones, which are part of the hipbone, which is covered by the muscles of the buttock, are the two bones that should bear the most weight while you are sitting. They are better equipped to sustain your body weight than is the tailbone. While sitting, you should sit squarely and not lean to far forward or too far backwards.
As you are reading this article, check where your shoulders are now. Do you have them hunched forward? More than likely, your shoulders are curled in and forward, while you are sitting at a computer and work station. Doing so causes tension in the shoulders and it regularly influences the way you feel and look.
Widen your shoulders and pull them back. It might be a bit of a strange feeling, but in a little bit of time, this will start to feel quite normal. Do some exercises to loosen up your rounded shoulders posture.
Craning the neck is another posture that happens regularly when you are hunching over to peer at your computer screen. This causes tension and strain at the back of the neck. You can remedy this problem when you reposition the screen of your computer.
If you are using a flat screen computer monitor, that causes you to tuck your chin down in order to read, you need to place the screen up onto a stand. Try to locate your correct neck posture.
Is your lower back rounded? When you are sitting in a hard chair, one that has the back at a stiff 90 degree angle from the seat, you might find that your lower back is rounding back; it is because your entire back wants support and your body is bending forward slightly to get it. Get a good ergonomic chair and make sure that your seat is tilted slightly forward.
These tips may be hard to keep in mind, depending on your levels of strength, flexibility and body awareness. Joining a program centered on body awareness, strength, relaxation and flexibility can help you relieve the pain you feel when using poor sitting postures. Such programs do not take much time at all and they will aid you in finding relieve from the back pain you suffer while improperly sitting.
Improving your posture offers you many benefits, including better health, more energy, better relaxation and the freedom from the back pain your suffer. It will also help to improve your overall general well-being. Think of what it will mean to you to be free of the nagging tension and pain you feel right now.
